“U Up?” Texts: Ask What Is Being Suggested

Fictional exchange: “U up?” followed by “Can we talk about tomorrow’s train?” is a logistical question. The same opener followed by “Come over?” suggests a different invitation.

Ask what they have in mind if it is unclear. You do not need to infer the entire relationship from an opener.

If late invitations are the only contact, check whether that arrangement matches what you want and what you have agreed. A mutually understood casual connection is different from expectations that remain unclear.

Work schedules, travel, and time zones can also explain when someone messages. Timing alone is not proof of low interest or disrespect.

A clear reply can be “I’m heading to sleep. If you want to meet, let’s plan tomorrow.” It gives information about your availability and the kind of invitation you prefer.

Notice whether that preference is respected. You do not owe a reply or a visit simply because someone contacted you late.
